Cuttack: A special court here Saturday awarded life imprisonment to a person after convicting him in a rape case.
The convict has been identified as Sheikh Bulu of Kaibalyanagar area under Chauliaganj police limits.
Bulu was living with a woman who was deserted by her husband some years ago. Bulu had raped the seven-year-old daughter of the woman several times.
On being informed, Childline officials rescued the minor girl and lodged an FIR with the police.
Police arrested Bulu after registering a case in this regard. However, the victim’s mother managed to give the cops a slip.
“Any leniency towards the convict would have negative impact on society,” said special court judge Bandana Kar while pronouncing her verdict.
