Khallikote: Notorious criminal Manoj Swain was arrested after he suffered a bullet injury during an encounter with the police on Pendurapali Square, Narayani Temple road under Khallikote police limits in Ganjam district in the wee hours of Friday.
Manoj, a resident of Khojapali village was a wanted criminal in several cases and was on the run.
Acting on a tip off, a team led by IIC Sunil Kumar Behera laid a trap near Narayani Temple to catch Manoj. When the gangster arrived at the spot, the police pounced on him. In his bid to escape Manoj opened fire on the police. The cops retaliated and Manoj suffered a bullet injury on his left leg after which he gave himself up.
Manoj was first rushed to Khallikote government hospital and then shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
A pulsar bike without registration, one pistol, and two live bullets were seized from his possession, police said.
