Dhenkanal: With an irresistible desire in her heart to climb the Mount Everest once again, the daring mountaineer from Dhenkanal district, Kalpana Das, has started her new expedition. Kalpana posed in a saree at a base camp on Mount Everest.
She has climbed from the Nepal end along with Kanchimaya Tamang of Nepal and Liamu Mank of China and all the members of the expedition have reached Base Camp-3 of Mount Everest. She has informed her fans about her progress by sharing a photo on WhatsApp Sunday, in which she was seen at the base camp wearing a traditional Indian sari.
In her message, she has said that, along with other members of the expedition she has already reached the Base Camp-3. It has become difficult for them to go ahead due to heavy cold wind flow. Despite the adverse climatic condition they are trying hard to keep moving ahead. They have embarked on this expedition to spread the message of world peace, fraternity and women empowerment.
Kalpana has also reiterated that, the purpose of this expedition is to encourage women to participate in the adventure sports. The veteran mountaineer Pemba Dheeraje Sherpa is leading the team, she said.
Needless to say, Mount Everest has always attracted climbers, including the highly experienced mountaineers. There are two main climbing routes: one from southeast in Nepal called Standard Route and the other from north in Tibet.
While the Standard Route does not pose substantial technical climbing challenges, scaling Mount Everest, nevertheless, is a daring feat with inherent dangers such as altitude sickness, weather and wind, avalanches and the Khumbu Icefall.
