Bahalda/Kendrapara: Three people died in lightning strikes in Mayurbhanj and Kendrapara districts in the last 24 hours.
Two persons died when lightning struck them during a thunderstorm in Bahalda area of Mayurbhanj district Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Karan Murmu, 52, who worked as a peon in Badgulta school, and Pandu Sardar, a Class-V student of Moranda school.
Both of them were inside their houses when lightning struck. Police seized their bodies and sent them to Rairangpur hospital for post-mortem.
In another incident, retired postal employee, Sarat Chandra Mohanty, 64, of Garajanga village under Marshaghai block in Kendrapara district Thursday died after lightning struck him while he was going to pluck flowers near his house. He was rushed to the district headquarters hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Local police seized the body and sent it for autopsy to the district headquarters hospital.
