Bhubaneswar, June 12: Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) is all set to start the light and sound show at Dhauli, the famous Buddhist stupa at the outskirts of the city.
Material related to the project has already arrived at the site and the work is likely to start Saturday, according to sources in the department. The light and sound work involves the use of screen, projectors and other audio visual aids which give detailed information about the history of the site.
The Union ministry of tourism has already sanctioned Rs 6 crore for the project, which will be set up on the lines of the publicity work that exists at many famous tourist sites across the country. The system is now working at places like ancient fort of Golconda in Hyderabad, Jaipur fort and other places.
The Dhauli Development Committee (DDC), which has assured full cooperation for the project, is managing the site. “We are fully cooperating with ITDC on the project, which will be a good value addition to the famous site. We are facilitating the team in the project,” said SS Rath, DDC secretary.
DDC Friday also met the makeshift shopkeepers who have encroached on the hilltop site next to the entrance of the Dhauli stupa. The panel comprising officials from district administration, tourism department, police and village sarpanch with shopkeepers and asked them to vacate the site soon.
