Bhubaneswar, June 18: The Met department here Thursday said the low pressure that formed over the Bay of Bengal would lose its intensity in the next 24 hours, adding coastal parts of Orissa would nonetheless continue to receive heavy rain.
“The low pressure over West-central Bay of Bengal off south Orissa and north Andhra Pradesh coast persists over the same area Thursday. It would weaken into a well-marked low pressure in the next 24 hours,” a Met bulletin stated Thursday.
Rain of thundershower would occur at many places over south Orissa and a few places over north Orissa while heavy rainfall will lash parts of coastal Orissa for the next 24 hours, added the bulletin.
Although the Met department has not issued any storm warnings, it has advised fishermen to stay cautious while venturing into sea as it expects winds reaching speeds upto 45 kmph.
Koraput received the highest rainfall of 40.4 mm followed by Jharsuguda at 31.4 mm and Keonjhar 12 mm in the past 24 hours. Many other places including the capital city also witnessed light to moderate rain Thursday.
“Heavy rainfall will continue to lash parts of coastal Orissa followed by north and south Orissa till June 23 while there are chances of rain to take an intense shape from June 25,” a Met official said.
The capital city and neighbouring areas may witness light rain or thundershowers in the next 24 hours with overcast conditions likely to prevail throughout the day. Maximum and minimum temperature may remain around 33° and 25°C over the city respectively Friday.
