Bhubaneswar, June 18: The proposed launch of the National Ayush Mission (NAM) June 21 has once again hit a roadblock, with the Ayush directorate here deciding to further postpone the official launch of the mission to the first week of July.
Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Homoeopathy) was officially announced last year by the Union government after which all states and union territories were asked to initiate procedures to form the mission in their respective domiciles.
NAM was to be tentatively launched on International Yoga Day at Kalinga Stadium in the city. The date of the launch was decided during the first apex body meeting of the Ayush society last month. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was approached for the ceremony.
“The launch of the mission on the designated day was decided tentatively,” said Ayush director Basudev Bahinipati.
“It was postponed due to various reasons including timings and presence of officials. However, Ayush directorate will celebrate International Yoga Day June 21 at the same place in grandeur,” the Ayush director added.
Sources told Orissa POST the timing of the launch ceremony was 7 am which was set to take place in an open ground.
“Launch of the mission will include an introduction to the mission and speeches by delegates. Such a ceremony is quite impossible to conduct in an open ground during the monsoon,” said sources.
All paperwork for NAM has been completed, sources said.
“Everything is in place for the mission including plan and budget.
The only delay is the launch which will be in the first week of July,” said Bahinipati.
