Malkangiri, July 2: Maoists, who began a ‘Pratibada Saptaha’ (protest week) demanding a halt in the anti-Naxal operations by security forces, killed a tribal man who they suspected was a police informer at Chintamchilika area here.
A group of Maoists abducted 40-year-old Raman Tamarabi from the area on Tuesday.
The man’s body was found in a nearby forest Wednesday with his throat slit and with gunshot marks, police officials said.
The Maoists are believed to have suspected that Tamarabi was a police informer, the officials said.
Vehicular movement was disrupted in Naxal-affected areas such as Kalimela, Motu, Padia, MV-79 and Chitrakonda in the district as buses and other vehicles stopped plying fearing trouble because of the Pratibada Saptaha called by the banned CPI (Maoist) to highlight its demand for a halt to anti-Naxal operations by security forces, police said.
Security personnel have been deployed in vulnerable areas. The government has also sealed the state’s borders with Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Combing operations and patrolling have also been intensified in these areas, according to police officials. PTI
