Bhubaneswar, July 3: The counsel of Mumbai-based model Preeti Bhatia, who was arrested by the CBI for her alleged complicity in Artha Tatwa (AT) fraud, Friday said his client might get bail since she has deposited `1, 17, 83,000 at the special chief judicial magistrate (CJM) court of the CBI as a precondition set by the Supreme Court for the hearing of her bail plea.
“The court may now grant her the bail as the amount has been deposited in the form of a demand draft in the court,” Bhatia’s lawyer AK Singh told Orissa POST.
The model had moved the apex court after her bail plea was rejected first by the special court, then by the Khurda district and sessions court and subsequently by the Orissa High Court March 16, 2015.
Hearing the case, the SC had directed Bhatia to deposit a sum of `1, 17, 83, 000 within six weeks with the special CBI court here.
Bhatia was lodged in Jharpada jail after she was arrested by the Central agency sleuths October 10, 2014.
