Bhubaneswar, July 6: Ananya Sritam Nanda is making waves as the first girl from Orissa to make it to the ‘top twelve’ of the hugely-popular music reality show Indian Idol Junior.
The show is a nationwide reality show being held in Mumbai, auditions for which were held across the country in several cities including Bhubaneswar.
Ananya has now made it to the ‘voting round’, where participants will be eliminated one-by-one based on the least number of votes polled among viewers.
A student of Class IX at DAV Pokhariput, Ananya has enthralled one and all with her performance at the Orissa audition, which was held April 14.
Her father Prasanna Kumar Nanda is over the moon. “She tried getting through several music reality shows in the past but was unsuccessful. I was not keen on allowing her to participate this time as there are a lot of tough competitors. But she was enthusiastic about giving it a try. She practised hard and won the hearts of the judges and proved me wrong in the process. Getting into the top twelve is no joke as the competition is cutthroat. I feel proud,” Prasanna said.
The 14-year-old initially trained under Pandit Chittaranjan Pani, and later learnt classical music from Nilamani Ojha.
Ananya’s friends and teachers too are delighted with her journey so far. “It feels so proud to see one of our students on television. I wish her all the best on behalf of the entire school, and we would like to request people to vote for her,” said Sujata, principal of DAV School.
While Ananya’s friends are taking the word-of-mouth route to get other people to vote for her, a cultural organisation in the city called ‘Swarabhishek’ is campaigning on her behalf. The organisation had even held a press conference in the city recently to get more people to vote for the city girl.
Those wanting to vote for her can do so by typing ‘IDOL <SPACE> <ANA> and sending it to 5252525, and can also do so by logging on to www.sonyliv.com.
