Puri: Dreaded criminal Dibana Behera was nabbed following an encounter with Puri police at Ashram square under Kumbharapada police limits late Saturday night.
During the exchange of fire between Dibana, a native of Gokha Sahi who has many cases pending against him at several police stations, and the police; the former sustained a bullet injury on his right leg below the knee. He was first admitted at Puri district headquarters hospital (DHH) and then shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital.
After getting a tip-off about the hideout of Dibana, Baselisahi police and Kumbharapada police conducted a joint raid on the hideout at about 1:30am.
Seeing the cops, Dibana opened fire at them forcing them to retaliate.
In the brief exchange of fire, Baselisahi inspector-in-charge Jeevananda Jena also suffered injuries.
Police also seized a motorcycle, one 9 mm pistol and one bullet shell from the spot.
Dibana is learnt to be the prime accused in many cases registered at Baselisahi police station.
