Balasore: Finance and Excise Minister Niranjan Pujari visited Balasore Wednesday and reviewed various projects and schemes. The Minister also stressed the need for steps to contain liquor deaths.
Expressing concern over the increasing misuse of cough syrups, the Minister said, “Cough syrups have emerged as an addictive among youth. It has become a danger.”
He also directed the Chief District Medical Officer and drug inspectors to keep tabs on the sale of cough syrups in the district.
Holding a review meeting at Sadbhabana Hall, he laid stress on revenue collection and meeting revenue targets.
Collector K Sudarshan Chakraborty, Excise Commissioner Anjan Kumar Manic, SP B Jugal Kishore, Finance Department Additional Secretary SK Routray and Assistant Commissioner of Excise Ramachandra Palta attended the review meet.
Excise Superintendent Rajendra Kumar Bhotra presented a report on raids, seizures and the status of liquor shops and registered cases.
The Minister warned that stern action will be taken against people who are involved in selling hooch and in the peddling of drugs if tragedies occur.
