Bhubaneswar: After receiving flak from various quarters, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) is very soon going to start the work for the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Baramunda here.
The BDA has floated tender for the work, which is in final stage. After receiving nod from the state Cabinet, the work order will be issued to the construction company, official sources said here Friday.
A government of India-run firm is likely to execute the work with an expenditure of Rs 160.91 crore. The project will be completed within two years from the date of award of the contract and the firm concerned will maintain the ISBT for five years, the source said.
Apart from construction of the ISBT, the company will also construct a bus depot for Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) at Khandagiri, which is designated as a temporary bus stand. So, the OSRTC bus depot will be shifted from Baramunda to Khandagiri.
It is a strategic project, which will not only improve the public transport system in the Capital city but also connect many cities and bus stands of other states.
The bus terminal would have 1,31,713 sq ft terminal space, 1,70,912 sq ft commercial space, 13 bus bays and parking spaces for 190 buses. Besides, the bus stand will also have public parking space for over 250 four-wheelers and 175 two-wheelers.
The terminal would also have Wi-Fi connectivity, fire detection and fire fighting system, area-wide real-time parking information display system, passenger information display system, passenger announcement system, CCTV surveillance, water treatment system, use of alternate energy source like solar power, sewage treatment plant, effluent treatment plant for bus wash, elevators, escalators and building management system.
