Angul: An elderly woman was critically injured in an elephant attack at Dangapal village under Chhendipada block in Angul district Thursday morning.
The victim has been identified as Parbati Majhi (60) of Dangapal village.
According to locals, the incident took place at around 6:00am when she was returning to her home after relieving herself at a field near the village.
An elephant, which had been roaming in the locality in search of food, suddenly charged at the woman while she was passing through a mango orchard. Majhi was seriously injured in the incident.
Alarmed by the shrieks of the woman, fellow villagers and the elephant squad rushed to the scene and rescued her. She was taken to local community health centre at Chhendipada for treatment. Later she was shifted to Angul district Headquarter Hospital after her condition deteriorated.
