BHUBANESWAR: Pandal hopping or adda with friends, your style quotient needs to be up to the mark during puja. It’s usually the fashion trends of women which grab headlines during the festival season. However, the market seems to offer men-specific trendy apparel this Durga Puja to cater to masculine tastes.
While women prefer designer sarees and salwar kameez during the five-day long festivity, men prefer a subtle look with western wear during festivals. With the puja festivities already kicking in, Orissa POST interacted with youth from the city to delve deeper into their clothing preference.
City-based fashion designer Sidharth Mohanty said, “Odia guys usually wear vibrant colors. A lot of them wear kurtas but people who are not fond of kurtas wear shirts in bright colors and nice prints. I prefer Indian kurtas in bright festive colors teamed up with fitted trousers/ jeans/ pyjamas.”
“I also prefer cottons in maroons, indigo blues, orange or greens. Traditional Indian prints like Ikats, embroideries, block prints or kalamkari can also be great choices for the festive season,” he added.
Actor Amrit Kashyap said, “For me, it’s usually kurta. Basic printed shirts are also donned by me during the puja. One should keep it simple for puja vibes. Since my father is a Bengali and mother from UP, it is usually an assimilation of styles for me.
“Besides my preferences, I am fine with any style that suits me. It’s more about celebrating puja than wearing something special. I like to keep things simple,” he added.
Medical student AdityaLal said, “I haven’t experienced the festival for more than five years due to my studies. Earlier, I used to prefer simple kurtas during this time. I also liked light sky colour kurtas coupled with ethnic shoes.”
City based comedian Priyaranjan Sahoo said, “I am not the appropriate person to talk about dresses but anything which doesn’t resemble Chacha Chowdhury is fine by me.”
Entrepreneur Subrat Das said, “I love to wear ethnic dress in red or black colours. I would also go with cotton trousers made of Khadi.”
