Manchester: Adama Traore’s double means Manchester City remain eight points behind Liverpool at the Premier League summit as Wolves stormed to a 2-0 win at the Etihad Stadium Sunday.
City were second best to their well-drilled opponents for long periods, with Traore’s two breakaway goals in the final 10 minutes handing Nuno Espirito Santo’s side a thoroughly deserved three points.
Substitute Bernardo Silva saw a goal-bound strike blocked 15 minutes from time – a reprieve that was clinically capitalised on by Traore soon after. The Spaniard superbly slotted past the onrushing Ederson from Jimenez’s pass after an incisive counter-attacking move to stun the home faithful.
The 23-year-old then wrapped up a notable win in stoppage time, again latching onto a Jimenez pass and clipping past Ederson in what was almost a carbon copy of his first goal.
Elsewhere in London, Arsenal rode on a David Luiz goal to scrape past AFC Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium. The Brazilian defender’s ninth-minute header settled a low-key contest as Unai Emery’s men extended their undefeated streak to eight games in all competitions. The Gunners moved up to third with 15 points, one behind second-placed Man City.
Meanwhile, Frank Lampard’s Chelsea continue to rise as the Blues thrashed Southampton 4-1 in their away fixture. Tammy Abraham (17th minute), Mason Mount (24th) and N’Golo Kante (40th) and Michy Batshuayi (89th) scored for Chelsea while Danny Ings (30th) struck for the home team.
