Kendrapara: A team of top officials comprising Secretary to Chief Minister, Transformation and Initiatives (5T), V K Pandian, Development Commissioner Suresh Mohapatra and National Health Mission director Shalini Pandit paid a surprise visit to District Headquarters Hospital here Tuesday.
The surprise visit was part of a ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiative launched by Chief Minister Naveen Pattanaik to ensure people-centric governance in letter and spirit in Kendrapara district.
The senior officials were accompanied by Collector Samarth Verma and other district-level senior officials.
Pandian, accompanied by senior officials inspected several wards of the DHH and checked the status of prevailing health facilities along with the public feedback about the level of satisfaction on ‘Mo Sarkar’.
The senior bureaucrats enquired about free medicines being supplied under Niramaya Yojana and interacted with a few patients about whether they were getting proper treatment and facilities provided by the state government.
Pandian sought to know the problems faced by patients in the hospital and the numbers children born in the government hospital and at private clinics. He collected feedback from the patients by interacting with them personally.
He wanted to know whether middleman and brokers were still diverting gullible patients to private clinics in the name of providing better service and treatment .
The District Collector said Pandian asked patients whether they were still paying bribes to hospital employees.
The team of officials accompanying Pandian also instructed the district administration to check the services provided under ‘Mo Sarkar’ at regular intervals by ensuring that the patients get free treatment and service to their satisfaction at DHH, Verma told reporters.
Later, Pandian and other senior officials visited the construction site of Mother and Child-care hospital at Shyamagudi. The first component of the Rs 110 crore project is expected to be completed by the end of February 2020. It was tentatively scheduled to be inaugurated in the first week of March next, Verma added.
