Malkangiri: The family members of a man who was killed in a Praja Court by a group of Maoists suspecting him of being a police informer in Malkangiri district February 23, brought his body on a bike after two days from Panasput area.
In a letter found in the pocket of the deceased, ultras warned locals against informing police. This threat has caused panic among villagers of Chitrakonda.
The family alleged that no policemen could go to the crime spot for two days to retrieve the body. His kin said they were bound to go there by a bike and bring back the body on a bike to their village in Chitrakonda.
The deceased was identified as Dinabandhu Bepari of Jadamba village.
Bepari was a trader. He was heading towards Panashput from Jadamba with his family when several Maoists intercepted him and took him with them. Later, the extremists murdered him by slitting his throat at Khajuriguda forest.
His kin said that a letter of Maoists was found in the pocket of the deceased. The ultras revealed in the letter that Bepari was routinely informing police about movement of Maoists. So he was killed.
In the letter, the rebels further warned that those who had been helping police should surrender themselves to Maoists or else they will be killed in a Praja Court.
A relative of Bepari said they had sought the help of police to retrieve the body, but police had suspected that ultras might have planted land mines in the area.
Police did not venture out to the crime place out of fear for hidden land mines, he added.
However, no reaction of any police official could be available to our correspondent.
