Berhampur, Dec 28: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Sunday laid the foundation stone for the Rushikulya
drinking water supply project near Gopalpur beach in Ganjam district. The administration has planned to
supply drinking water to Gopalpur from this project which will be built at a cost of `5 crore.
The CM later attended the concluding day function of the Gopalpur beach festival. Addressing the function, Patnaik who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that Gopalpur beach is nowadays regarded as one of the popular beaches of the country. He said that the beach festival has helped in increasing the inflow of tourists. In addition to this, it has also helped to popularise the art and culture of both Ganjam district and the state.
Patnaik further said that the Pallishree exhibition has given a better opportunity to the people of nearby areas and self-help group members to sell their products. He added that the state government is making all-out efforts for the development of Ganjam district.
The CM also unveiled ‘Shamuka’, a souvenir, on the occasion. He also
distributed cheques to several self-help groups and felicitated some eminent personalities.
The programme was also attended by the chairman of Gopalpur beach festival and higher education minister Pradip Panigrahi, women and child development minister Usha Devi, forest and environment minister Bikram Keshari Arukh, housing and urban development minister Pushpendra Singh Deo, Aska MP Ladu Kishore Swain, Berhampur MLA Ramesh Chandra Chayupattnaik, Khallikote MLA Purnachandra Sethi, Sanakhemundi MLA Nandini Devi, Aska MLA Devaraj Mohanty, Polsara MLA Srikant Sahu, Sorada MLA Purnachandra Swain, zilla parishad chairman Surath Kumar Pradhan, BDA chairman Subas Moharana and others.
Several cultural programmes were
organised as part of the festival in the evening.
