Bhubaneswar, August 20: Around 12 dancers from the city, who has won million hearts through their dance, were felicitated by Goutam Dance Studio during its maiden annual function held at Rabindra Mandap, here in the city, Thursday.
Those who were awarded with Kalinga Step Dance Award-2015 were Apurba Das, Bhumika Das, Barby Mishra, Abhishek Nanda, Akankhya Subudhi, Swagatika Behera, Babru Biban, Sanskruti Das, Pratiksha Sahu, Lekha Mohanty and Ayush Das.
“These dancers have been fascinating the audience through their performance, so, the management committee decided to honour them for their exceptional talents. I believe this award will encourage them to work hard in the upcoming days. They participated in various dance reality shows in the state and outside,” said Goutam Bhatacharya, choreographer of Goutam Dance Studio.
Abhishek Nanda, who had bagged the title of Jhum Orissa Jhum and also acted as a child artist in the Odia film ‘Balunga Toka’ said, “I am very happy after being awarded. This award is one kind of inspiration to me and for others artists. I have been trying my best to win hearts viewers.”
The dance studio also felicitated with Life time achievement award to Shyamalendu Bhattacharya. He had worked as an actor in many Odia films. Some of the films are like Stree, Bhuli Huena, Jayadeba and Michha Maya Ra Sansara had touched many.
Saranya Samant Ray was felicitated as Mini Dancer of the Year. She was one of the students of this institution. Recently she was invited to Malaysia and Goa for her performance. Now she is signed by Mayfair Company for advertisement.
“This is one of my greatest achievements that I ever dreamt for. I dedicated myself in learning dance and now I could receive its fruit. I was shaped in a proper way in this institution. I shall always remain grateful to my teachers. I will also try my best to promote culture of Orissa through my dance,” said Samant Ray.
The Goutam Dance Studio was formed in 2012 with the intend of training city boys and girls in various dances. This institute has its centres in Keonjhar, Jagatsingpur and Bhubaneswar. Around 650 students are taking training in dance in these three places.
“We have planned to hold such events every year so that the students can be encouraged. We will give them a platform that they can show their hidden talents. I am really proud to be their teacher. I wish them all the best for their bright future,” added Goutam.
