Bhubaneswar, Sept 28: Though there is no election round the corner, three major political parties in the state have chalked out political programmes to counter each other on Gandhi Jayanti Day.
At first the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) announced a 9-day Jan Sampark Padayatra beginning October 2. The Congress party also made public its plan to launch a parallel padyatra the same day until March next year.
Without sparing a chance to demonstrating its strength, the state BJP unit Monday announced a day-long satyagraha in a bid to connect the people across 147 constituencies in state.
The BJD has planned to highlight the state government’s achievements and the Centre’s neglect towards the state during its padayatra while the Congress has decided to focus on failures of both the Centre and state in its six-month-long programme.
“During our Satyagraha, we will highlight the welfare programmes of the Modi government and Central assistance to the state. We will also inform people about the failures of the government here,” state BJP vice-president Prithiviraj Harichandan told media persons here.
He alleged the BJD government has failed to keep its poll promises. “The government has failed to provide employment to one lakh youths, loans to farmers with an interest rate of 1 per cent and social security to unmarried girls up to the age of 30,” he claimed.
