Malkangiri: Superstitions are so deep rooted in our society that they often force people to resort to some bizarre acts to get rid of something.
This has once again been proved when an ailing woman of MV-6 village in Malkangiri district was forced to eat pig faeces by a sorcerer to cure her ailment.
Sources said that the woman had been ill for some days. Suspecting her to have been possessed by an evil spirit, family members and some villagers contacted a sorcerer.
The sorcerer reached the village Sunday and started performing some bizarre acts to exorcise the evil spirit with the family members and villagers standing as mute spectators.
The black magic practitioner first thrashed the woman to get the evil spirit out of her. As it did not work, the woman’s face was exposed to flame and then she was forced to eat pig faeces.
The woman instead of getting well became critically ill and was rushed to the Malkangiri district headquarters hospital (DHH) by a local Anganwadi worker and an ASHA worker.
The sorcerer has since gone missing.
