Bhubaneswar, Oct 28: Karatekas of VV School bagged 12 medals including three gold, six silver and three bronze medals in the recently concluded 14th Kofukan All India Karate Championship at Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
Subhalaxmi Das was the most successful among the nine karatekas from the state, bagging two gold medals in the under-10 kata and fight events respectively. Sushree Krishna Sahoo took top honours in the under-eight kata event while Aditya Barik won the yellow metal in the under-8 to 10 years kata event.
Rajalaxmi Jena won the silver medal in the U-8 fight event. She also bagged a bronze medal in kata. Asim Patnaik won a silver and bronze medal in the under-8 fight and kata events respectively. Vedanta Das bagged two silver medals in the under-9 to 10 fight and kata events respectively. Sarathi Harichandan won a silver medal in the under-10-11 kata event.
“Our karatekas had a great outing in the championships. The gold medal winners had almost a cakewalk, while the silver medal winners lost the chance of bagging gold by a whisker,” coach Valena Valentina stated at a press conference here Wednesday.
Asif qualifies
Asif Bran Pal of VV School has qualified to be a Karate Association of India (KAI) judge. Asif cleared the Kata-C and Fight-B category examinations conducted by KAI referee council chairman Bhaskar Sensai at Raipur, October 24.
Postponed again
The FAO-run football league will start November 8 instead of November 1 according to a release issued by the body in Cuttack, Wednesday. “Twenty teams divided into four groups will participate in the tournament. Azad Hind Club, Western Mahaveer, Lalbag Club and Yuvabandhu Cultural Club have opted out of the competition,” FAO informed.
