Bhubaneswar, Jan 1: They work hard, and party even harder. But there is no mistaking the passion within them to make it big in life.
Party-hoppers in the city celebrated the beginning of the New Year well into the early hours of Thursday, partying like they had nothing to lose. But on the contrary, they couldn’t be any more focused on enriching their lives through their work.
A young entrepreneur who’s beginning to find his feet in the city, Partha Samal, a tour operator, says, “This year, I’d like to go on a trip to three countries – Vietnam, South Africa and Belgium. While it will be a pleasure trip, I’ll also add a dash of business to it by looking into ways on attracting more foreign tourists to our state. My aim will be to promote our state’s rich culture in the best way I can.”
Sweety Samantray, a software engineer, says she wants to take a break from her job, and pursue a course in management. “I’ve wanted to be a management student for a long time but I never had the time for it. Now that I’m planning to quit my job, I can maybe realise my dream of going on a world tour in 2015,” Samantray says.
For avid shutterbug like Sunil Kalindi, the year ahead holds glorious promise of more and more pictures. “I see the world around me through my camera lens. I possess an insatiable thirst for photography and I hope of having a huge room full of my pictures someday,” says Kalindi.
Career and professional achievements are not the only things on Abhinav Kumar’s mind at present. The political science student is madly excited about his brother’s wedding that is round the corner. “I’ve planned a lot of things for my brother’s wedding. I was in Hyderabad recently from where I bought a sherwani to wear on the big day,” says Kumar.
If one thing Ankita Chakrabarty regrets missing out on in 2014 is spending time with her friends. This is a box that Chakrabarty says she doesn’t want to leave unchecked this year. “No matter what, I’ve resolved that I would keep my smartphone aside while I’m with friends. It eats up most of my time. I’m also planning to hit the gym this year and take care of my health,” Chakrabarty says.
Sitting with his friends outside Big Bazaar in Satya Nagar, Umashankar Mahanta, a post-graduate in Physics, says, “Next year, I must qualify the National Eligibility Test (NET). I appeared for the exam just recently but I was unprepared and did poorly. It is a lesson for me to start concentrating on my studies and begin preparing in earnest.”
