Cuttack, Nov 29: Rising Star Club registered a narrow victory while Radha Gobinda and Chand Club shared points in their respective matches of the FAO First Division Football League at the Barabati Stadium here Sunday.
In the first match, Adeltola Abbey emerged as a star for the Rising Star with a hat-trick to take his team to a fighting 3-2 victory over Rising Students, with all the three goals coming from him. Abbey came early at 10th minute to give a lead to Rising Star followed by another in the 18th minute to take the score 2-0.
Rising Student did not lose hope and fought back well to restore parity through Anil Deep scoring two goals in the 19th and 29th minutes.
However, just nine minutes before the final whistle, Abbey came again to score his hat-trick to ensure the hard fought victory
In the other match, Radha Gobinda scored two early goals, both coming from Kunwar Marandi at the eighth and ninth minutes respectively. Fighting back well, Moirangthem Nanao Singh of Chand Club narrowed the margin with his first goal in the 22nd minute and finally equalling the score with his second one in the 72nd minute.
Monday’s matches: Young Utkal vs SBI; Radha Raman vs SAI-STC.
Orissa finish runners-up
Orissa finished runners-up in the National School Games Girls’ football Championship after facing a humiliating 0-3 defeat from Jharkhand in the final at Andaman, Sunday.
Jharkhand took s sweet revenge in the final as they had been defeated earlier by Orissa with the identical margin in the group league stage. Orissa had beaten Maharashtra 4-3 in the semifinal on their way to the summit clash. Suman Pranjya Mohapatra was adjudged the best striker by scoring 14 goals throughout the tournament.
