Bhubaneswar, Jan 2: Rainfall in the state is set to decrease in the next 48 hours but a few parts of northern and southern Orissa might receive light to moderate rainfall till Sunday, the India Meteorological Department predicted Friday.
The low pressure area Thursday over west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of north Andhra Pradesh and south Orissa coasts has converted into a less marked cyclonic circulation over north-west Bay of Bengal. In view of this ongoing disturbance, the Met has advised fisherman to be cautious while venturing into the sea as strong and gusty surface wind might prevail along the coast with a speed reaching up to 45 kmph.
The sky in the capital city was overcast over the last three day and there were dewdrops and moisture at the ground level, dampening the spirits of the citizens.
“The cold wave is fine, but this sultry atmosphere is irritating. Everywhere the floors and mats are wet, it’s so annoying,” said Shyamli Mohanty of Bhubaneswar.
Met director Sarat Sahu told Orissa POST that as the sky has been overcast for the past three days, the upper air and ground level temperatures have been the same and this has led to dew. “Once the sun comes out, the dew will automatically vanish. The cold wave condition may also come back once this weather system over the sea ends in the next 48 hours,” said Sahu.
Weather officials have recorded the highest rainfall of 82mm in Paradip, followed by 60mm in Chandabali in Cuttack Friday. The capital city received 13mm rainfall.
The weather over the capital city and adjoining areas is expected to be partly cloudy with minimal chance of rain in the next 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperature may remain around 26 and 19 degree Celsius respectively Saturday.
