Nayagarh: In a suspected case of honour killing, a 26-year-old woman was Monday found dead under mysterious circumstances in her house at Bijaynagar village under Gania police limits in this district.
The deceased has been identified as Mamata Rout.
According to a source, the family members woke up Monday morning to find Mamata lying dead in her room, with multiple injury marks on her head. The marks suggest that she was hacked to death.
Her father immediately informed the police and a team from Gania police station led by OIC Jayprakash Parida reached the spot and recovered the body for post mortem.
The deceased’s father lodged a report with the police that his daughter was murdered by some miscreants. On the basis of his report, the police have initiated an investigation.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Mamata had been in love with a youth that the family had been disapproving of. This is why, the police are investigating the possibility of the family’s involvement.
