Bhubaneswar, Jan 2: Orissa started their campaign in the BCCI Senior Women’s T20 cricket tournament in style defeating Kerala by 29 runs in a Group A game at the JKC Ground, Guntur, Saturday.
Opting to bat first Orissa posted 110 for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 20 overs with opener Madhuri Mehta (30, 36b, 3×4) emerging as the highest scorer. Kadambini Mahakud (27), Madhusmita Behera (18) and Swagatika Rath (13) got starts, but failed to convert them.
But the target proved difficult for Kerala as they could only manage 81 for the loss of nine wickets. S Asha (33, 27b, 3×4, 1×6) was the lone batswoman to shine. Ritu Singh (2/6), Sushree Dibyadarshini (2/13) and Swagatika Rath (2/16) bowled well for Orissa and never allowed the opposition to score freely.
Brief scores: Orissa 110/7 (Madhuri Mehta 30; T Shanti 3/17) bt Kerala 81/9 ( S Asha 33; Ritu Singh 2/6) by 29 runs.
Easy victories
DAV Rajabagicha and DAV (CDA) scripted emphatic eight wickets wins over their respective opponents in different matches of BC Parida Memorial Inter-School cricket tournament at Cuttack, Saturday.
(At BOSE Ground): Ratnakar Vidya Mandir 120 for 7 (Sajid Saha 26 Abhisek Das 3/19) lost to DAV Rajabagicha 121 for 2 in 12.5 overs (Sashank Rungta 39) by eight wickets.
(At Bidanasi Ground): Ravenshaw Collegiate HS 97 for 4 (Omm Prakash Swain 54 n o) lost to DAV (CDA) 98 for 2 in 14.4 overs (Siddharth Nayak 35 n o) by eight wickets.
Campaign ends
Orissa’s campaign at the Vth National 6-Reds Snooker Championships 2015 ended Friday night in Kolkata with Asutosh Padhy, Subrat Das and Akash Mohapatra losing their respective matches. All three suffered 0-4 frame defeats at the hands of their respective tournaments to bow out of the tournament.
