Bhubaneswar: Days after the ruling BJD faced a setback in Keonjhar, the party’s former MLA from Khandapada, Sidhartha Shekhar Singh, tendered his resignation from the party’s primary membership Sunday.
Singh said he sent his resignation letter to BJD supremo and chief minister Naveen Patnaik because he was being ignored in the party for the last one year.
If sources close to Singh are to be believed, the ex-MLA had been upset with the party leadership for being denied a party ticket for the 2014 Assembly elections.
“During my tenure as the MLA of Khandapada, BJD had won elections to the NAC, the block and the panchayats. Although the party high command did not take my name into consideration for the 2014 Assembly polls, I still worked hard for the party,” Singh said. “However, after the Kandhamal polls, the party never asked me to attend any party meeting either at the constituency or the district level. I felt that may be my services are not required by the party any longer,” he added
BJD spokesperson PK Deb said Singh’s decision was out of his personal choice. Singh, who was the MLA of Khandapada from 1999 to 2004, did not indicate which party he would work for in future.
