Ghasipura, Jan 22: In shocking incident, an ailing minor boy, whose employer dumped him along a road instead of taking him to a hospital, died near Shalapada bypass under Ghasipura police limits in Keonjhar district Friday.
According to reports, 14-year-old Prashant Dandapat, son of Maheswar Dandapat of Sareipata under Ghatagaon block, had got a work in a bakery at Shalabani a few months ago. He had also helped another minor boy of his village, Indramani Nayak, get a job in the same bakery.
Two days ago, Prashant caught cold and suffered from fever. Indramani was also indisposed. As Prashant’s condition worsened, the bakery owner carried the duo in a Mahindra Bolero for treatment in a hospital late Thursday night.
However, instead of taking to them to the hospital, the bakery owner abandoned the boys at Shalapada bypass and fled the scene.
Prashant lay in the open all night while Indramani helplessly guarded him. In the morning, Indramani requested the staff of four passenger buses to carry Prashant to Ghatagaon hospital, but none came to their rescue.
Eventually, Indramani with the help of some local youths managed to hire an auto-rickshaw and shifted Prashant to Anandapur sub-divisional hospital. However, the youths abandoned him at the hospital and went away.
After booking a ticket, Indramani abortively tried to carry Prashant to the ward. He requested the doctors to attend to his friend, but none paid heed to his fervent pleas.
Finally, a doctor reached Prashant only to declare him dead. The incident has sent a shockwaves in the town.
The police reached the spot and registered a case of unnatural death while an investigation has been launched. PNN
