Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police Friday submitted a report to Orissa Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on the alleged detention of Rama Devi University students on the varsity campus December 3, 2015.
The report submitted by Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said the allegations leveled by the complainants against the university authorities are false, said sources. After observing the report, the commission has asked the complainants to file a counter reply by February 26.
The development comes after the commission December 5 had directed the DCP to submit a report on the complaint filed by some students of the university in which they alleged that they were locked up in a room before Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s visit to the campus December 3.
They had urged the commission to intervene in the matter and direct the state government to explain the reasons for their detention.
In their memorandum to the commission, the students had said they were not allowed to attend the CM’s programme.
“Many outsiders were allowed to attend the meeting, but we were not allowed even after we showed our identity cards. Just a few minutes before the commencement of the programme, Sahid Nagar police locked us in a room,” the students had written in the memorandum. PNN
