Narayanpatna: In an exemplary display of bravery, a youth escaped an abduction bid by Maoists near his village in Koraput district Saturday.
Manu Nachika of Laumal village under this block fought a heroic battle with 10-masked ultras when they waylaid his motorcycle and snatched away its keys at a place about 2 km from the village.
The Maoists went on assaulting him with lathis and were about to overpower him when he managed to escape into a nearby forest.
While Nachika was running away, the ultras fired 10 rounds at him but he miraculously escaped unhurt and spent the whole night in the forest. Sunday morning, he made his way through the jungle route and reached a Border Security Force (BSF) camp at Podapadar.
The security forces administered him necessary treatment and handed him over to his family members at Narayanpatna.
The joy of his family members knew no bounds after they found Nachika alive. His neighbours too rushed to his house and hailed his escape from the captivity of ultras as a rebirth.
Later, the security forces launched a combing operation in the area and checked every vehicle passing on the route.
According to sources, Nachika, a native of Laumal, came to reside at Narayanpatna about six years ago after the ultras doubting him as a police informer had beat him up mercilessly after tying him to a tree in 2009. Since then, he had stopped visiting his village.
Nachika’s wife Kamali, an ASHA worker, had been to Laumal to attend a meeting at the local health centre Saturday. After six years, Nachika went to his village to bring his wife back home on a bike.
However, on reaching Laumal, Nachika found that his wife had already left for home. Following this, he was returning back home on the motorcycle when the ultras waylaid him, reports said. PNN
