Bhawanipatna: In a shameful and shocking incident, a 22- year-old youth has raped an 81-year-old woman in Bhawanipatna town of Kalahandi district. The youth was arrested and produced in a local court Thursday. He was remanded to judicial custody as his bail plea was rejected.
The accused has been identified as Bhaja Ghee, son of Tikaram Ghee, a resident of Lane-17 of Irrigation Colony in Bhawanipatna town. The shameful and ghastly incident occurred February 20 evening.
According to the police, the elderly woman is a neighbour of the accused. It was around 6.15 pm when Bhaja went to her house. Finding the elderly woman all alone, he forced himself on her. Before leaving her house, he threatened to kill her if she disclosed the macabre incident to anyone.
After coming to know about the incident, the victim’s family members had lodged a report at Bhawanipatna Town police station February 22. Registering a case under Sections 376 (1), 506, 341 and 294 of IPC, IIC Staya Nanda launched an investigation. They recorded the victim’s statement in the presence of the Magistrate and got a medical test done on her.
On the basis of the report lodged, the police arrested the youth and produced him in a local court Thursday. Since then the untoward incident has become a hot town of discussion in the locality.
The shameful incident has been the talk of the town.
