Malkangiri: Two persons died on the spot and seven others were critically injured after a tractor overturned at Kukanar village bordering Malkangiri Monday. Seven others were being treated at the district headquarters hospital here in a critical condition.
The deceased were identified as Sani Kandiki (65) and Lucky Bhumia (48).
The injured were Manguli Nayak (47), Muni Nayak (49), Budri Samara (43), Guru Mete (35), Padma Bhumia (17), Mana Nayak (46) and Bali Kandiki (67).
Villagers of Dushanad under Mathili police station in the district were going on the tractor to attend a function at Kukanar village in Chhattisgarh. They were on their way home Sunday, when the driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a turn. Sani and Lucky died after coming under the wheels of the vehicle.
When contacted, Mathili police station officer-in-charge Pramod Kumar Mallick said they were not informed about the matter as the incident had occurred in Chhattisgarh. Police said they were however trying to collect information on the accident. PNN
