Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered 8,914 new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours, taking the total tally in the state to 4,71,536. Active caseload in the state stands at 71,835. Out of the 8,914 new infections, 5,081 were reported from quarantine centres while 3,833 persons contracted the virus locally.
Total COVID-19 fatality of patients while under treatment in hospitals as reported by state Health and Family Welfare department is five (5).
Khurda district has registered the highest number of new cases with 1,258 persons testing positive for the disease, followed by Sundargarh with 592 new infections.
A total of 1,02,27,321 swab samples have been cumulatively tested in the state so far. The number of new recoveries stands at 6,527.

Other districts that have reported new COVID-19 cases are: Cuttack (587), Puri (530), Sambalpur (520), Bargarh (452), Nabarangpur (433), Bhadrak (351), Angul (331), Jharsuguda (304), Bolangir (291), Nuapada (278), Ganjam (262), Kalahandi (236), Jajpur (232), Nayagarh (194), Balasore (179), Boudh (175), Gajapati (165), Rayagada (157), Dhenkanal (149), Koraput (145), Mayurbhanj (134), Kendrapara (132), Subarnapur (121), Jagatsinghpur (109), Keonjhar (104), Deogarh (103), Malkangiri (73) and Kandhamal (62).
The State Pool reported 255 new cases. These are persons who have come from outside the state and have tested positive.
