Boinda: Many local residents Friday resented the slow pace of constructing of the four-lane work which is underway on NH-55 at Boinda in Angul district. Sources said that construction had started three years back but it is yet to be completed. Hundreds of people had been evicted from Kishorenagar block to facilitate land acquisition and subsequent road laying.
So far only a few kilometres have been constructed. Surprisingly however, cracks have already developed in the newly-laid track near Kamarei area under Handapa police limits. Locals met Friday morning District Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain and submitted a memorandum in this connection, some villagers from Boinda informed.

The locals complained against severe irregularities and low-quality of work. Around 400 makeshift shops were demolished for the purpose of land acquisition last February. The affected shopkeepers have neither been paid any compensation nor rehabilitated, they fumed.
On being contacted, Athamallick MLA Ramesh Chandra Sai said, “The NHAI authorities and contract firm have been directed to focus on early completion and good quality of work as well. The department concerned will accordingly be instructed to conduct a probe over the alleged cracks that have developed on the newly laid road.”
