Bhubaneswar, March 28: Several block grant teachers’ associations have decided to boycott the evaluation of answer-sheets of Plus II and Plus III examinations if the government fails to abolish the block grant system by March 31.
“We have decided to organise a protest in front of the Assembly March 30 and will give an ultimatum to the government to take a favourable decision by March 31. So we expect that the government will consider our request and take a favourable decision. However, if the government fails to concede our demand, we will boycott the evaluation camp beginning April 4,” said Biranchi Das, organising secretary of 448 Category Aided College Block Grant Lecturers and Employees’ Association and Non-Government Block Grant Teachers’ Association.
Other group of block grant lectures also informed Orissa POST that they will also boycott the evaluation if the government continues to ignore the issue of block grant lectures.
“Our association hopes that the government will take a favourable decision on this long pending issue. However, if we did not get a favourable decision by April 4, our members will boycott the evaluation camp,” said Golak Nayak, president of (Plus II and Plus III) Non Government Lectures and Employees’ Association.
Meanwhile, the block grant schoolteachers who were protesting at Lower PMG Monday told Orissa POST that in the coming days they would intensify their protests.
“Our association has decided to organise a rally in front of the Assembly to press for scrapping of the block grant system. The protest will continue till March 31 and we also hope that the government will take a favourable decision. Moreover, we have attended the matriculation evaluation camp because of our trust in the system. Future course of action will be decided March 31,”said Prakash Chandra Mohanty, chief convener of School Teachers Federation of Orissa (STFO).
Significantly, March 30 would be a crucial day for the block grant teachers and the government as the latter is going to submit an affidavit in the High Court on the decision taken on block grant teachers’ issues as per an earlier order of the court.
