Cuttack: The outbreak of jaundice in several parts of the Silver City has given nightmares to the district administration which has made efforts to hammer out solution to the menace.
After a review meeting in this connection, which was presided over by Central revenue divisional commissioner (RDC) KB Hota here, the public health department (PHD) was directed to replace all worn out and dilapidated pipelines in the city within a one month.
The administrative machinery also insisted that the old drainage system in the city be cleaned and sanitised and frequently reviewed on the extent of jaundice attack and resultant measures to curb it at least on a weekly basis with immediate effect, said the revenue divisional commissioner.
“Meanwhile, regular water sample testing would also be done to stop the menace before it aggravates the situation,” he ordered.
The outbreak of Jaundice in several parts of Cuttack, especially in Ward No. 41 along Jobra barrage area has created difficulties for the district and civic administration.
The officials have been planning to embark on a massive protective measures to supply clean water through tankers, distribution of Halogen tablets, mass sanitisation awareness programmes, replacement of dilapidated pipelines and other renovation works including separating the pipelines from sewerage lines.
While the government had earlier miscalculated the severity of the cases as more than 40 jaundice patients have been identified in the city so far.
Meanwhile, official teams have been drafted to inspect the extent of pollution level in the city; the government has also allocated a Rs 380 crore budget for this renovation project.
The meeting was attended among others by Cuttack collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra and Cuttack municipal commissioner Gyana Das.
