Lephripara: An inebriated youth beat his grandparents to death with a log at Sipakachar village under Lephripara police limits in Sundargarh district early Saturday morning. The deceased were identified as Arjun Pradhan (65) and his wife Phula Pradhan (60), grandparents of the accused Padmalochan Pradhan (25).
According to sources, the incident occurred while the elderly couple was on their way to collect mahua early morning. Padmalochan attacked the couple with a log and hit them leading to Arjun’s death on the spot. Family members rescued Phula and rushed her to the district headquarters hospital. However, she died while undergoing treatment.
On being alerted, Lephripara OIC Jagdish Bara, DSP Dhiren Swain, SDPO Prasant Kumar Mohanty along with a forensic team reached the spot and launched an investigation into the matter. Police registered a case of murder and sent the body for post-mortem.
Police arrested Padmalochan and seized the log used in the murder.
