Bhubaneswar: The state government is all set to open 100 model schools across the state in the 2016-17 academic year.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will inaugurate the schools at a function to be organised during his visit to Ganjam district April 5, official sources said Sunday.
The state government has set the target of opening model schools in all 314 blocks of the state in a phased manner. Of these, 100 will begin functioning in the upcoming academic session in the first phase, sources said.
The construction work has been completed and all facilities are in place, said the sources. The recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff has also been completed, they said.
In May last year, the school and mass education (S&ME) department had issued a notification for the opening of 111 model schools on the pattern of Kendriya Vidyalayas in educationally backward blocks of the state.
As much as 50 per cent of the total seats will be reserved for girls, according to sources. The schools, which will follow the CBSE syllabus, with English as the first language and Oriya as the second language, will have hostel facilities.
The schools will offer education from Standard VI to Standard XII. The total strength of each class will be 80, with 40 students in each section, said sources. Admission would be done in line with the provisions of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, they said.
The schools are envisaged to be managed by the Orissa Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan formed by the state.
