New Delhi, April 24: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will raise the issue of water scarcity and drought in different districts of Orissa during the Parliament session that starts April 25.
The BJD would also demand a debate on the imposition of President’s rule in Uttarakhand, senior BJD leader Bhartruhari Mahatab said after an all-party meeting convened by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan here Sunday.
“We will focus on issues of water scarcity in Orissa. We will also raise national issues such as the Ishrat Jahan encounter case and imposition of President’s rule in Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. We will draw the attention of the Union government to the drought situation in several districts in Orissa and will urge the Centre to release the full amount earmarked for the state,” said Mahatab.
The Speaker had convened the meeting a day before the Parliament session to discuss ways to ensure smooth functioning of the House.
Analysts, however, said both Houses of Parliament are likely to witness pandemonium as the Congress and other opposition parties would insist on a discussion on the political crisis in Uttarakhand and the imposition of President’s rule.
The session will continue till May 13.
