Bhubaneswar, April 26: In a setback to Congress party in the state, its youth wing president Rajat Choudhary Tuesday resigned from his post after being repeatedly grilled by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Artha Tatwa chit fund scam for past couple of days.
Senior Congress leader Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra told newsmen in the afternoon that Choudhary had tendered his resignation addressed to the All India Youth Congress president earlier in the day.
Meanwhile, Rajat told a section of media that he resigned from his post on ‘moral grounds’.
Rajat’s resignation is seen as a setback to the party in the state which had been making a hue and cry demanding the resignation of food supplies minister Sanjay Dasburma for his alleged involvement in the chit fund scam.
Congress members have also held a protest march at 4pm at Lower PMG here seeking the scalp of Das Burma.
Notably, Rajat who appeared before the CBI three times in two days has been holding the Youth Congress post since September 24, 2014.
When contacted, Pradesh Congress Committee president Prasad Harichandan feigned ignorance about Rajat’s resignation. But he hastened to add that the Youth Congress president should submit his papers to All India Youth Congress president and not to the OPCC president.
