Balasore: Construction of a new railway overbridge on Angargadia rail track in this district has long been delayed and thousands of residents and commuters are facing problems because of it, a report said.
The delay in construction has put thousands of residents and commuters in trouble as the service road they take to commute is in a bad shape. Travelling on the service road has become a commuters’ nightmare due to frequent accidents.
Locals alleged that this has happened due to the apathy and negligence of the departmental authorities, which they termed as unfortunate.
Reports said that the service road starts from Police Line Square in Balasore town and passes via Angargadia, Sobharampur, and Saraswatipur before connecting with the National Highway at Bamapada.
The road regularly witnesses heavy traffic as a number of offices and establishments like Vigilance, Adarsh Vidyalaya, various technical institutions, CIPET, a business park, LPG terminal, Birla Tyres plants etc are situated alongside the service road.
Thousands of officials, labourers, students commute on this road daily to their destinations. Moreover, the state government has recently sanctioned funds for construction of an indoor stadium on the government land which is on the roadside.
The diversion roads have become muddy and slippery since the onset of the monsoon and commuters riding a two-wheeler through the affected area are always on the receiving end. Large potholes have come up on the road with rain battering the area.
The road gets filled with muddy water even at slight rainfall and commuters often fail to distinguish them and meet with accidents.
Contacted, Natabar Pradhan, assistant engineer of the Works department who is the in-charge of the overbridge said the service road was earlier constructed but craters developed on it due to frequent rainfall. He however, assured to repair the service road very soon.
