Karanjia: Several cracks have been detected on the spire of the main structure at Kichakeshwari temple in Khiching village of Mayurbhanj district. The centuries-old temple is in a state of dilapidation.
Rainwater seeps deep into the wall and even falls on the shrine. As a result, the temple which was built of black marble is now covered with algae. Cracks have also been detected on the roofs and walls.
“It is not possible to sit and worship inside the temple as the water keeps dripping,” a servitor said.
“The temple needs to be repaired as soon as possible,” said priest Subash Panigrahi.
A few days ago, the Department of Archaeology repaired the Kutei Tundi and Chandrasekhar temple in the vicinity of the main temple, however, the flow of water has still not stopped.
“The state government needs to take this into account. It is imperative that the temple be repaired by experienced professionals,” said priest Dillip Panigrahi.
In this regard, the Karanjia deputy collector and the trustee of the temple Rajinikanth Bishwal said that he would write a letter to the Department of Archaeology and try to resolve the issue.
