Bhubaneswar, June 26: Meghali Malbika Swain, the 10-year-old ‘Google Girl of India’, has set a record by reciting names of 165 rivers in European countries in one minute. The record has been included in the India Book of Records (IBR).
The girl achieved the feat at an event held at Odisha Administrative Service Association Bhawan Sunday. IBR adjudicator Biswadeep Roy Chowdhury was at the event.
Meghali had earned the sobriquet ‘Google Girl’ at the age of 5 as she displayed encyclopaedic knowledge. In 2013, she was highlighted by electronic and print media across the country.
A proud Prafulla Kumar Swain was happy with his daughter’s feat. “Her knowledge about world geography is too good. Ask her about anything and she will answer it correctly,” Prafulla said.
The girl is able to list out mountains, plateaus, peninsulas, islands, deserts, oceans, seas, bays, gulfs, channels, rivers, and tributaries of the world at the drop of a hat.
The prodigy is also able to identify and locate any county on a blank map and even detail their geographical features. Also, she can name all neighbouring countries and features of 196 countries of the world.
“She can list out capitals, currency, languages spoken, and national flags accurately,” Prafulla added.
Meghali is also a good violin player. “She loves music and has been trained in violin. With training of a few months, she performs like a master,” the father said.
Prafulla went on to explain the record attempt of Meghali. “Today she attempted records in two categories — 165 river names in one minute and 1,000 rivers of world in eight minutes. She successfully made the record of 165 rivers name in one minute but missed the other by seconds.”
The youngster says she aspires to be a scientist. “My father is my inspiration. He trained me so well that now I can remember anything. I want to be a scientist so that I can utilise my knowledge for the development of mankind,” she said.
