Bhanjanagar: Police Tuesday arrested a godman on charge of molesting a girl on the pretext of healing her in Ganjam district. Tension prevailed as the news spread in the town.
Irate over the incident, locals overpowered the self-proclaimed godman and thrashed him properly. Agitated locals gheraoed the local police station to attack the godman. However, police were deployed to maintain law and order and bring the situation under control.
Assuming violence, police were deployed on the police station premises.
The godman belonged to a different community and the police suspected violence. However, the situation was under control while the report was filed.
Police held the accused and began his interrogation.
According to sources, the bogus godman originally hailed from Balugaon and resided in Aska. He practiced out traditional healing by visiting villages.
A girl of from the outskirts of Jagannathprasad was suffering from fever for a few days. It was incurable even after several treatments. Suspecting the girl to be possessed, parents of the girl approached the accused to heal her. Dramatically, the accused ordered the girl to take bath. He asked the girl’s parents to vacate the house. Finding her alone he tried to molest the girl.
However, the girl ran away and shouted for help. Neighbours rushed to the spot and overpowered the accused while he tried to escape. They thrashed and handed him over to the police. PNN
