Bhubaneswar, Jan 11: After a brief spell of rain and thundershower, the state is now facing extreme cold wave condition with as many as nine places recording temperature below 10 degree Celsius as in past 24 hours.
Phulbani remain the coldest at 5.4 degree Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department Sunday predicted that an extreme cold wave condition is set to prevail over parts of interior Orissa in the next 24 hours, adding that moderate fog may occur over the coastal areas of the state.
The chilly weather, which made a comeback because of the clear skies over the state in the past few days, is expected to prevail with same intensity till January 15. However, there are chances of relief after this period, according to weather experts.
The lowest temperature after Phulbani , recorded by the Met department in the past 24 hours, was at Koraput at 6.4 degree Celsius, followed by Bhawanipatna, 6.5 degree Celsius and Sundergarh, 7.4 degree Celsius. Other places that recorded temperatures below 10 degree Celsius were Jharsuguda, 7.8, Keonjhar, 7.5, Hirakud, 7.8 and Malkangiri, 8.8 degree Celsius Sunday. The maximum humidity level remained below 80 per cent in most parts of the state.
The weather department also predicted clear sky over the capital city and neighbouring areas in the next 24 hours, adding that there might be fog early in the morning.
The minimum and maximum temperatures may remain at 12 and 27 degree Celsius respectively Monday.
