Bhubaneswar, Jan 12: Schools, colleges and other institutions across the city marked the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda with various cultural programmes Monday.
The occasion coincides with National Youth Day, which was instituted in the memory of the great reformer, thinker and spiritualist.
Capital High School here organised a debate and discussion programme on its premises to commemorate Vivekananda. “We ask our students to follow the path of Swami Vivekananda. It is essential to make the students aware of this great personality. We have chosen this way of celebrating his birth anniversary so that students are inspired by this great man,” said Sonamika Ray, headmistress of the school.
Bhima Bhoi School for the Blind was not left behind in the race to honour Swami Vivekananda. “The special students were enlightened on the rigorous, disciplined lifestyle of Vivekananda as well the extraordinary wisdom and knowledge that he possessed and the remarkable things that he’d done in his short life. Vivekananda laid stress on education and its importance in the lives of the youth, and our students would do well to take a leaf out of his book and follow the ideals set by him,” said Gouranga Chandra Patra, headmaster.
The students of the schools were greatly inspired by the life and teachings of Vivekananda. “I have read various books on Vivekananda through which I came to know more about him. He possessed an unrivalled intellect and an unusually gifted memory power. He is an inspiration to us all,” said Manoranjan Das, a Class IX student of Unit-VIII Government Boys’ High School.
