Bhubaneswar, Jan 12: In yet another controversial development for the ruling party, the CBI Monday questioned the BJD’s Balasore Lok Sabha MP Rabindra Jena in connection with his alleged involvement in the chit fund scam in the state. Jena went to the CBI office here Monday evening.
Though it is not yet clear as to what Jena was interrogated about, sources said he was questioned about his alleged links with the Seashore Group of companies. Reacting to the development, BJD spokesperson Amar Prasad Sathpathy told Orissa POST, “The party has nothing to do with what individuals do in their personal capacities.”
Notably, Jena is the second BJD MP to be questioned by the CBI in the ongoing probe into the chit fund scam. Earlier, the party’s Mayurbhanj Lok Sabha MP Ramchandra Hansda and two former MLAs Subarna Naik (BJD) and Hitesh Kumar Bagartti (BJP) were arrested by CBI in connection with their links with chit fund firms.
Hansda had been arrested November 4 by the agency after several rounds of interrogations on his links with Nabadiganta Financial Services, a chit fund company.
On investigation it was found that the trio happened to be the former directors of Nabadiganta Capital Service, a ponzi company that allegedly duped hundreds of investors.
The investigating agency had recovered Rs 28 lakh cash from Hansda’s house in Mayurbhanj district in July 2014. Nabadiganta Capital Service was accused of collecting about Rs 100 crore from people by promising high returns to them.
However, they defended themselves claiming that they were non-functional directors in the company and had resigned from it . The CBI had also arrested Pravat Tripathy, a sitting BJD MLA, for his alleged involvement in Artha Tatwa Group, which duped thousands of investors in the state.
