Berhampur: Baidyanathpur police in Ganjam district Tuesday registered a case against 40 medical students on charges of kidnapping a youth from his residence and assaulting him inside their hostel premises.
The victim has been identified as Suraj Kumar Padhi, a resident of Chandimandir Sahi in Lanjipalli area of the city.
On being informed, police reached the spot and rescued Padhi from the captivity of the accused medical students.
Padhi underwent treatment at the hospital following which he lodged an FIR at the police station.
Police have registered a case (No 182/23) and have launched an investigation as to why the students left the college campus and kidnapped Padhi from his residence before assaulting him in their hostel premises, late April 29 night.
The accused students were also called to the police station and questioned Tuesday.
